All modern thoroughbreds descend in tail-male line to one of the foundation sires brought to England in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries and crossed on English and imported mares – the Byerley Turk, Darley Arabian and Godolphin Arabian – of Arabian, Barb and Turkoman breeding.
Since then the thoroughbred breed has spread across the globe, and each country’s breeding studs and barns have become a major agribusiness.
The Hong Kong ARC will examine how the thoroughbred has developed in three countries: India, the Philippines and Turkey. This will include:
