Applying the Accelerator to International Horse Movements

17/03/2014

International competition is key to racing’s future, and the growing number of truly international events is one of the success stories of the sport in the modern era.

This growth, however, faces the challenge of inconsistent approaches to the application of health regulations and quarantine, leading to excessive and irregular health requirements for importation of horses.

In order to address these constraints the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) with the support of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities and the International Equestrian Federation is developing the “high health, high performance horse (HHP) Concept”.

Join concurrent session 1B at the Hong Kong ARC to hear first-hand what are the current obstacles to international movement and how the OIE/FEI/IFHA project will resolve these.
